Why Picasa

Well I must be honest first great point is that it is free. There are a lot of great programs out there like Lightroom, BlueMarine and of course Aperture for Apple users. However for its price it has some unique and helpful features that I think are very useful.

Editing a picture can be a little scary if you feel your changes are to the original especially if you want to play a bit. Picasa is able to non-destructively allow you to edit the picture and then export out the finished product if you would like or revert back to t the original. It’s a great tool to get your hands dirty with doing some basic settings like white balance, Fill light and red eye reduction.

But the product is directly integrated with the Picasaweb site which allows you to upload it directly from within the program and keep your online and your off line albums in sync. I like online tools like picknik but the speed of a native app and its ability to function with the basic system can’t be surpassed by web only options.

Organization is really sweet on this app also. It has a facial recognition ability and GPS recognition built in. That means you can now track your photos by people and place as well as by calendar or any other internal grouping you may choose to use.

All in all I think it’s a great program and now its integrated with Google+ which means you can get infinite storage if you have the right size for your pictures online. Anyhow just a few thoughts….
