Taking it all in

This is a vacation post.  I'm here in Vancouver, Canada, seriously a photographer's unabashedly friendly locale . A new and sparkly city  situated in a temperate rain forest.  If your not finding something to shoot your  either blind or you live here. If you haven't made this a destination check your plans for the future and push them back a bit and add this.

The picture is actually from France but the moment is related to the feeling one has when on vacation here. There is a surety of purpose amid the change and the excitement that is in front of and surrounding you. You can feel  life  in all its gestures and moving around and  interacting with you. Its often why you pick up the camera because something that tastes this good can't be savored only once you want to return to the sweetness of the moment again and again.

The memory of a vacation changes with time as you reflect and project your experiences and you either imbue it with something  that was never there or de-emphasize the  very much present emotions you were feeling.  However this "journal" is about photography and its place and so  I return to the thought can you really take it all in? Can you really capture the moment as it really felt...

I was reacquainted with some friends and had the privilege of seeing some of his photography. It was interesting to see something not online. I would love to see those captures again  to see how expertly he handled the  compositions. The  photo book was a good introduction. There was a genuine honesty to the shots that reminded me that you have to be in the moment sometimes to capture the moment. You can't just observe a thing objectively  and hope to really get the moment  You have to relax and take it in..
