Who actually sees the pictures?
Its a funny thing making your pictures public. Sometimes it obvious because there are comments, or +'s or likes or whatever the term on the social media are ways people can tell you they like your handiwork. However there is a silent majority that quietly contemplates your work and make a judgement about your ability, your presentation and even who you are that you never hear from.
Should you care about them, Is what they think of importance? Who are they? Its funny sometimes when you hear from people that you know who they "saw" this or that and you realize they are a portion of that crowd. Depending on the number of views they could be the majority, but it is also likely that the majority of the people are not people you know and they are making assumptions primarily off their perception of your work.
All of us creatives who are out there hammering away at our craft are seeking to "touch" people, to somehow make someone pause or reflect or even ponder something. The success of our efforts is to a large degree self motivation. But that can only take us so far. Self serving though it might be we need to self solicit sometimes to give us the impetus to take us to the next place. Perhaps our work is faltering when we are not connecting to our audience,
Perception can distort reality in photography and in reading our audience, We all need to work a little harder to elicit feedback not because we need the slap on our back but because otherwise we are groping in the darkness. That can be a lonely place to be for someone trying to connect.
The photo was taken in France, I thought it was inspirational because when I was taking the shot people kept telling me they were not grapes. I did not believe they were grapes but people percieved that is what I thought. They made a judgement based on what they perceived I was trying to do , however they would never know what I actually thought unless they asked.....
