Preparation for the feast
For every great meal there was a great preparatory work to bring it to fruition. In fact often time the grace and simplicity of the dishes only under great observation do you realize the care and the effort that went to making it a reality. Likewise in photography the final presented product is the final step of sometimes a long series of steps to make the final presented photograph arrive in the thoughts and minds of its viewers.
What does this mean,
this means to me deciding before you even grab your camera what it is you hope to capture. It means deciding which camera will deliver the best opportunity to reach your goal. It states that choosing your lenses is not just about can you see the object. but is it the most flattering? Focal Length, and shutter speed and ISO are key ingredients in fabricating a image capture. Then comes the cooking in post production to make sure the high notes are preserved and the unwanted elements removed. and the presentation on paper, web, tablet serve as a dish to make your content palatable and eye catching.
Why do I enumerate these things? Because no chef would think that he could skip any of these steps and arrive a great meal so how can we as photo presenters believe we could do the same. I am working through some things right now photographically and it helps to understand the steps because that can help illuminate a glaring hole in your workflow that needs to be addressesed before you can serve up that wonderful shot for the world to feast their eyes on.
