The quiet storm of the self portrait

As mentioned in an earlier post there a need to go the more distant shores.  To that end we look at the self portrait. Not a selfie which is whimsical and best when its spur of the moment but its more subtle and heavy sibling the self portrait.  First we look to the root word of portrait. This is the measured view that a portrait is about capturing who you are.  To see the seriousness and the whimsy. Its striking feature is its honesty.  This requires that you  focus first on the exposure and then take a deep dive into the right composition that shows the "reality" Most likely  this view is not something that is commonly seen and experienced.  This means that to get this "correct" portrait takes time and effort to build the comfort and report that the photographer will capture the right moment. With the addition of the "self" portion this risk magnifies as you are in the uncomfortable position of trying to do both
roles  of being the subject and the photographer.

This particular frame was inspired by Annie Leibovitz. Its reflective and makes use of the soft light  of the window over the shoulder.   The black and white treatment simplify and add seriousness to the picture.  The elements are placed to  show interest but not dominate the scene. This is the beginning of my in the RAW series  albums Enjoy and as usual I look forward  to your comments and thoughts.
